New Project

After going to the music jam session the other weekend, I was inspired to teach myself to knit. I have crocheted before but never knitted. The women, who attended with their husbands, knitted together while listening to the music and I thought it looked therapeutic and relaxing. I wanted to make a simple scarf for my birth mom so that she is cozy for the rest of her Midwest winters. When I began it took me about 2 hours to make very little progress. I got some larger needles and tried again. This time it was the width of a throw even though I followed the pattern. I got about 20x30 inches before I was really tired of the throw-that-was-supposed-to-be-a-scarf. I took it apart and made my own pattern based on experience. This took significantly less time and was lots of fun. Here it is:

That's a lovely scarf, and nice and long! How did you learn to knit? A book? internet instructions? Sara Knits. She made hats and scarves for everyone a couple of years ago and made the boys and Violet baby blankets (that they now call their geegees). Now she is making another one, I think with crocket hook, because it is various granny square combinations. Maybe the geegees were with a crochet hook also because they are in squares. Anyway, it's really nice to have something to keep your hands busy in the car, at meetings, and such. It really makes you feel like you are using you time well!

I got a $3 book on how to knit that came with small needles. I practiced. Then I looked online and there was a tutorial video which I watched to make sure I was doing it right.

The scarf looks lovely - and so nice and warm too! I'm so proud of you! It's great to have something to do while waiting as well! Wish I could hear your bell choir. It must be beautiful. The praise music at our church has improved considerably since Stephen joined the group! We were really needing the skills he has!
